James Balousek Richardson, LMSW, received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. As a psychotherapist in our Upper West Side therapy practice, James utilizes a strengths based, holistic, collaborative, and humanistic approach to his work. He has worked with diverse populations including children, teens, and adults with various issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, life transitions and relationship struggles.
James is inspired by relational, narrative and mindfulness based approaches, and is passionate about fostering resilience with his clients. He also integrates solutions-based models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to cater the unique needs and strengths of his clients. James believes therapy is about creating a warm and supportive space for clients to unpack challenges and connect with their strengths so they may live their lives with dignity, connection, and fulfillment.
